Abstract
The project aims to evaluate the impact of these two activities in Egypt and build capacity among stakeholders to improve agricultural production, marketing, and nutrition outcomes. The FAS Activity is a five-year project that aims to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Egypt by promoting agricultural production, improving market access, and enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian agricultural products. The IMCHN Activity is a three-year project that aims to improve the nutrition of mothers and children in Egypt by enhancing the quality of maternal and child health services, improving nutrition knowledge and practices, and increasing access to nutritious food. The EIBC Project is being implemented by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The project is being conducted in six governorates in Egypt, including Cairo, Giza, Qalyubia, Sharqia, Menoufia, and Dakahlia. The project involves two main components: a household listing survey and a farm household baseline survey. The household listing survey aims to identify and verify FAS participants, assess the coverage of the Raedat Refiat program, and select comparison households using a random-walk method. The survey found that the Raedat Refiat program covered approximately 22% of the target households in 2017. The farm household baseline survey aims to collect data on the demographic characteristics, agricultural practices, and nutrition knowledge and practices of farm households in the project area. The survey found that the majority of farm households in the project area are small-scale farmers who rely heavily on agriculture as their primary source of income. The survey also found that farm households in the project area have limited access to key agricultural assets, such as irrigation systems and fertilizers. The survey found that farm households in the project area have limited knowledge of nutrition and health practices, and that there is a need to improve nutrition knowledge and practices among mothers and children in the project area. The survey also found that farm households in the project area have limited access to nutritious food, and that there is a need to improve access to nutritious food in the project area. The EIBC Project aims to improve agricultural production, marketing, and nutrition outcomes in the project area by building the capacity of stakeholders, improving agricultural practices, and enhancing access to nutritious food. The project will also provide recommendations to policymakers and stakeholders on how to improve agricultural production, marketing, and nutrition outcomes in Egypt. The project recommends that policymakers and stakeholders take several steps to improve agricultural production, marketing, and nutrition outcomes in Egypt. These recommendations include improving access to key agricultural assets, enhancing nutrition knowledge and practices among mothers and children, and increasing access to nutritious food in the project area. The project also recommends that policymakers and stakeholders take several steps to improve the targeting of FAS beneficiaries and to improve the effectiveness of the Raedat Refiat program. These recommendations include improving the accuracy of FAS beneficiary lists, enhancing the coverage of the Raedat Refiat program, and improving the targeting of FAS beneficiaries. Overall, the EIBC Project aims to improve agricultural production, marketing, and nutrition outcomes in Egypt by building the capacity of stakeholders, improving agricultural practices, and enhancing access to nutritious food. The project has several key findings and recommendations that policymakers and stakeholders can use to improve agricultural production, marketing, and nutrition outcomes in Egypt.
