Abstract
The project focuses on rebuilding the community through improved shelter and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities, complemented by integrated Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Protection mechanisms. The project targets 1,289 households, with 300 units to be totally rebuilt, 889 units to be rehabilitated, and 200 households to receive rental support. The project has made significant progress in the first quarter of 2015. A total of 363 transitional shelters were built, exceeding the target of 300. Additionally, 908 shelters were repaired, surpassing the target of 889. The project has also provided hosting support to 43 host families and 53 hosted families, with some families hosting more than one family. Furthermore, 212 households have benefited from land rental assistance, which aims to formalize settlements and reduce cases of informal settler families and insecure tenure status. The project has also made significant progress in the WASH sector. A total of 414 respondents have demonstrated knowledge of critical times to wash hands, representing an increase of 24.3% compared to the previous quarter. Additionally, 421 households have stored their drinking water in clean containers, and 174 household latrines have been completed, exceeding the target of 615. The project has also rehabilitated 138 hand washing facilities, 145 septic systems, and 668 household septic systems, which is 89% of the target. The project has also made progress in the Protection sector. A child protection assessment was conducted with 400 children from the community, who evaluated the status of Child Protection and GBV issues in the two Barangays. The results of the assessment indicate that 90.75% of the children know that a Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) is present in the community, and 88.75% have answered that BCPC has accomplished their tasks and duties at the Barangay. The assessment also revealed that 62.75% of the children have expressed that BCPC has conducted awareness campaigns on BCPC and Child's Rights. The project has also established community mechanisms to address GBV, DRR training, and child-friendly spaces and services. The First Organizational Meeting of the 62A Sagkahan Water Association (62A SWAss) was conducted on May 9, 2015, participated by 40 males and 81 females. An orientation on the roles and functions of officers was also done, followed by the election of officers who will manage the 20 community tap stands. The project has also delivered a total of 299 rain water catchments, 43 shallow wells, and 8 shallow wells, which have benefitted a total of 6,406 individuals. The project has also made progress in providing clean water to households. A total of 83 households, with 335 individual members, from Barangay 62-A, and 76 households, with 249 individual members, from Barangay 62, have had clean water connected to their homes. The project has also installed 2 solar lamp posts in the on-site relocation site, which will be donated to the Barangay.
