USAID. MISSION TO BURMA
Project to provide U.S.
1986
Abstract
and third-country training to strengthen the planning, management, and technical capabilities of Burmese public and private sector personnel involved in key development activities. The Burmese Ministry of Planning and Finance"s Foreign Economic Relations Department (FERD), USAID/B, and a U.S. contractor will share implementation responsibilities. The project will fund U.S. and selected third-country training for some 20 long-term and 140 short-term participants. Training will address critical skill needs in economic planning, statistics, project development and administration, financial management, computer sciences, energy, agricultural research, and related areas. Participants will include personnel responsible for implementing the country"s development programs, including a number who serve as trainers in in-country development training programs and public management courses. Amendment of 8/13/87 increases funds for U.S. academic training and adds in-country training component, in which an estimated 1,080 persons will be trained by U.S. and Burmese instructors, thus strengthening the Government of Burma"s (GOB) training capacity. A small amount is also added for special development or policy studies intended to promote policy dialogue with the GOB. (PD-AAW-354)
