USAID. MISSION TO CAMBODIA
More than 20 years of internal warfare and extended periods of political and economic isolation from the West have resulted in unprecedented damage to the economy and society of Cambodia.
1993

Abstract
While the situation has improved considerably in the past decade, Cambodia is still one of the poorest countries in the world, with crumbling infrastructure and very weak public services. The country"s development needs are overwhelming. This report is based on a review of all available literature relating to Cambodia"s assistance needs and development constraints and on consultations with officials in Washington, DC, Bangkok, and Phnom Penh. The report also benefits from USAID"s experience on the ground in Cambodia since the signing of the Peace Agreement in October 1991. The report includes a sectoral analysis (covering education, health, vulnerable groups, agriculture, industry, tourism, forestry and environmental protection, transportation, and physical infrastructure) and information on Cambodia"s slow progress in mine eradication. A compendium of donor activities is appended, along with a list of contacts and documents reviewed. (Author abstract, modified)
