Abstract
The germinator is a space prepared for seed germination, with the goal of continuing seed selection. The ideal time for installing germinators is from April to June, when coffee is at its maximum level of harvest. A well-designed germinator allows for the production of healthy, vigorous, and straight-rooted seedlings. A good vivero enables the production of the required quantity and quality of plantlets for farm parcels. The vivero is an area prepared for plant growth, where optimal conditions are provided for seedlings to develop over a period of 4 to 5 months before transplanting to the final field. The production of plantlets in viveros offers several advantages, including ease of production, simple labor management, and the production of healthy, vigorous, and well-rooted plants. This method also utilizes family labor and allows for the production of high-quality plantlets with excellent production potential. Proper management of the vivero is essential to obtain high-quality plantlets that will result in good production and profits. The installation and management of the germinator and vivero involve several steps, including the selection and acquisition of high-quality coffee seeds from productive plants over 5 years old, with a small to medium size and resistance to pests and diseases. The seeds are then planted in the germinator, where they are provided with optimal conditions for germination and growth. Once the seedlings have developed, they are transferred to the vivero, where they are nurtured and cared for until they are ready for transplanting to the final field. The vivero requires careful preparation, including the selection and preparation of the site, the construction of the vivero, and the preparation of the substrate for the plantlets. The plantlets are then placed in bags or containers and provided with optimal conditions for growth, including adequate light, water, and nutrients. Regular monitoring and maintenance of the vivero are essential to ensure the health and well-being of the plantlets. The production of high-quality coffee plantlets in viveros is a critical step in coffee production, as it allows farmers to produce healthy, vigorous, and productive plants that will result in good yields and profits. Proper management of the germinator and vivero is essential to achieve this goal, and farmers who follow the recommended steps and guidelines can expect to produce high-quality plantlets that will meet their needs and contribute to the success of their coffee farm.
