Abstract
However, two BHUs in Golo, Koron and Killing, were not operational during the reporting period due to rehabilitation, and mobile clinics were conducted to cover the gap. The World Relief Services (WRS) continued to support the Sudan Ministry of Health (SMoH) EPI program, conducting supportive supervision visits, ensuring availability and zero stock out of essential drugs, and providing monthly running costs to all facilities. The main challenges encountered were road access issues to some health facilities, security conflicts in Golo and Rokero areas, and the availability of qualified staff, particularly Medical Assistants. Despite these challenges, the health sector attended coordination meetings at MoH and OCHA, shared updates and lessons learned from other actors, and disseminated health messages to mothers attending nutrition feeding centers within health facilities. Health indicators showed significant progress, with 100% of total weekly surveillance reports submitted on time by health facilities, 69,572 outpatient consultations conducted, and 3 health facilities rehabilitated. The number of health care staff trained in the prevention and management of acute malnutrition was 32, and 11 supported sites were managing acute malnutrition. Nutrition services were provided through 9 nutrition feeding centers in Central Darfur, including Azoum locality, West Jebel Marra, Central Jebel Marra, and North Jebel Marra. A total of 38 mothers support groups were screened and formed to disseminate Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) key messages among their communities. IYCF training was conducted for 24 lead mothers and nutrition staff in Nertiti for 4 days. The main challenges encountered in the nutrition sector were a shortage of supplies (Plumpy Sup) for almost 2 months due to WFP's logistic delays. Strong coordination continued between Health, Nutrition, WASH, and FFA activities to provide lifesaving services to vulnerable people affected by crises. Indicators showed significant progress, with 15,547 people receiving behavior change interventions to improve infant and young child feeding practices, and 24 health care staff trained in the prevention and management of acute malnutrition. The program continued to provide health services to a total of 529,020 people, including 126,429 internally displaced persons (IDPs), in the target area. The total number of people targeted was 345,516, with 99,995 IDPs targeted as a subset. The program's goal was to provide health, nutrition, and WASH services to affected populations in Central and West Darfur. The total dollar amount of the program was $1,785,273, with $1,449,881 requested from USAID/OFDA and $335,392 from other sources.
