Abstract
The project aims to improve Palestinians' access to basic infrastructure and services by rehabilitating and constructing roads, water, and wastewater projects. The objective of this Task Order is to build upon the 28 km of phase I Trunk Sewers implemented by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and expand the collection system through the construction of the Phase 1A Branch Sewers. The project involves the extension of approximately 12.5 km of branch sewers into high-density priority locations within the City of Jericho, connecting to existing Phase I trunk sewers. Key project elements include the construction of 12.5 km of 8" diameter uPVC main sewers, 468 precast reinforced concrete manholes, 2.0 km of 6" service laterals, 585 connection pits, and 14,100 square meters of trench restoration. Additionally, the project includes the procurement of one combination Jet Vacuum Sewer Maintenance Truck. As of February 2015, the contract had elapsed 34.55% of the total contract time, with a planned percentage of completion of 8.83% and an actual percentage of completion of 8.86%. The project experienced a negative float of -11 days due to delays in installing connection pits and internal manholes furnishing. The Morganti Group, Inc. plans to accelerate the installation of these activities during the next reporting period to avoid the negative float. Safety is a top priority for the project, with a comprehensive traffic plan in place to manage traffic and ensure the safety of workers and the public. The Morganti Group, Inc. has submitted special and specific safety and traffic plans to the Construction Management Contractor (CMC) for acceptance prior to start excavation for each alignment on a daily basis. Safety meetings were conducted with CMC and USAID during site periodic visits, and a tool box meeting was conducted with all staff on February 5, 2015, to discuss safety issues and responsibilities. No accidents were reported during this reporting period. The project has implemented measures to ensure the safety of workers and the public, including the distribution of a safety handbook in Arabic to all attendees and the installation of safety signs. The project also has a comprehensive plan in place for emergency situations, including communication with ambulance and medical centers.
