Abstract
The framework aims to enhance the professional competence of nurses and midwives, improve patient care, and promote a culture of lifelong learning. The CPD framework is based on the principles of continuous learning, self-assessment, and peer review. The framework emphasizes the importance of CPD in maintaining the licensure of nurses and midwives. It outlines the roles and responsibilities of the CPD provider and the accreditation process for CPD programs and activities. The framework also provides guidelines for the allocation of CPD credits and the monitoring and evaluation of CPD activities. The CPD framework is underpinned by the principles of autonomy, accountability, and competence. It requires CPD providers to establish clear goals, objectives, and competencies, and to demonstrate autonomy and accountability in their CPD activities. The framework also emphasizes the importance of continuous monitoring and evaluation of CPD activities to ensure their effectiveness and relevance. The CPD framework is designed to promote a culture of lifelong learning among nurses and midwives in Uganda. It provides a framework for CPD providers to develop and deliver high-quality CPD programs and activities that meet the needs of nurses and midwives. The framework also provides a mechanism for the accreditation of CPD providers and programs, ensuring that they meet the required standards and guidelines. The CPD framework is a critical component of the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council's strategy to enhance the professional competence of nurses and midwives in Uganda. It is expected to contribute to improved patient care, better health outcomes, and a more competent nursing and midwifery workforce. The framework outlines the key stakeholders involved in the CPD process, including the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council, CPD providers, and nurses and midwives. It also highlights the importance of monitoring and evaluation at both national and regional levels to ensure the effectiveness and relevance of CPD activities. The CPD framework provides a comprehensive framework for the development and delivery of high-quality CPD programs and activities in Uganda. It is expected to promote a culture of lifelong learning among nurses and midwives, improve patient care, and contribute to better health outcomes in Uganda.
