Abstract
The report highlights the efforts of IMPACT in supporting the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) in its fight against the pandemic. In May 2020, USAID approved $610,300 in redirected funding to support the MOPH's COVID-19 response for six months. At the end of October 2020, a remaining balance of $280,069 was not fully spent. On January 27th, IMPACT received a new approval from USAID to use $155,695 from this balance to continue supporting the MOPH on its COVID-19 interventions. The purpose of this funding is to help the Government of Madagascar (GOM) purchase and transport health and expendable commodities from the central level to districts and communes, and to sensitize Malagasy people in the eight most affected regions of COVID-19. The regions include Boeny, Analanjirofo, Haute Matsiatra, Vatovavy Fitovinany, Amoron'i Mania, Vakinankaratra, Menabe, and Atsimo Andrefana. Diana, Atsinanana, Sava, and Sofia regions were added as their new cases increased during this period. IMPACT supported hospitals treating positive cases by transporting supplies and expendable equipment. The organization donated supplies and equipment to five regional hospitals, including CHRD Antsohihy, CHU Tambohobe, CHU Morafeno, CHU Analankininina, and CHRR Fenerive-Est. IMPACT also purchased and donated supplies and equipment to the Direction Régionale de la Santé Publique (DRSP) in various regions. The organization transported health commodities and expendable equipment, including oxygen cylinders, surgical masks, and Hypochlorite HTH, from the DRSP to the Service de District de Santé Publique (SDSP) in various regions. IMPACT also financially supported the transportation of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) specimens and GeneXpert specimens from various regions to the DVSSER-Antananarivo. IMPACT protected its team and Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) against COVID-19 by distributing expendable products and equipment. The organization procured and distributed soap, face masks, disinfection liquid, and Javel water to PARCs and PAs in 13 USAID-supported regions and three targeted districts. The organization supported communication awareness by attending and providing technical support during virtual meetings organized by the Commission for Communication on Risk and Community Engagement (CCRCE). IMPACT conducted sensitizations and social mobilization using mobile sound systems in various districts, reaching over 34,000 people. The organization also sent SMS messages on COVID-19 prevention to various stakeholders. The planned activities for the next month include providing financial support to the MOPH to transport COVID-19 vaccines from districts to health facilities, continuing to donate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and expendable equipment to the DRSP, and continuing to support the MOPH in transporting COVID-19 expendable equipment and supplies from central to regions and districts level. The total funding approved was $155,695, with $33,466 spent this month. The cumulative expenditure from January to April 2021 (COVID only) was $153,096. The total commitments were $2599, with no comments.
