Abstract
The center, which is the 15th of its kind in the country, was inaugurated and handed over to the regional authorities by the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) in collaboration with Engender Health through the USAID Afya Yangu Northern Project. The building was renovated to provide a comprehensive package of care for GBV survivors, including integrated services for prevention and response. The center is a result of a partnership between the Ministry of Health, Dodoma regional leadership, and international donors, including the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through USAID. The project is part of the National Guidelines for Integration of One Stop Centres for GBV and VAC Prevention and Response Services in Health Facilities, which was launched in 2013. The center aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for GBV survivors, promoting their well-being and de-stigmatizing GBV. Dodoma region has reported a high incidence of GBV cases, affecting many girls and women. The regional commissioner, Ms Rosemary Senyamule, noted that the center is a significant step towards combating GBV in the region. She attributed the success of the project to the efforts of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who emphasized the importance of these projects during a meeting with EGPAF's CEO, Mr. Chip Lyons, in the United States. The president has been a long-time advocate against GBV. The center will provide a range of services, including medical care, counseling, and support for GBV survivors. The services will be provided by a team of healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and social workers. The center will also offer training and capacity-building programs for healthcare providers and community leaders to enhance their knowledge and skills in responding to GBV cases. The establishment of the one-stop center in Dodoma is a significant milestone in the country's efforts to combat GBV. The center is expected to provide a safe and supportive environment for GBV survivors, promoting their well-being and de-stigmatizing GBV. The project is part of a broader effort to address GBV in Tanzania, which has been recognized as a major public health concern.
