The program commenced in the Dominican Republic in spring 2020, with a focus on the priority geographic areas of Distrito Nacional, Santo Domingo Oeste, Santiago, San Francisco de Macorís, Puerto Plata, and the border region with Haiti. The Advance Program conducted a baseline labor market assessment to examine the supply and demand in selected sectors, with a particular focus on market demand for skills. This assessment was completed in the Dominican Republic, following similar assessments in Honduras, Guatemala, and Jamaica. The goal of the assessment is to help technical training institutions in the Dominican Republic revamp their offerings and to provide decision-makers with a better understanding of the demand for skills in the future.
