Abstract
The initiative aims to implement an Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) in 260 schools for children aged 8-15 years who have never attended school or dropped out before completing Grade 6. The program is implemented by Education Development Center (EDC) in six counties: Bong, Grand Bassa, Lofa, Margibi, Montserrado, and Nimba. The activity focuses on two major result areas: institutionalizing a framework for ALP and increasing the number of learners eligible to re-enter the formal school system. Institutionalization of the ALP framework requires education officers at the county, district, and site levels to have the knowledge and skills needed to implement, monitor, and support quality ALP services. A three-cycle series of active learning opportunities and peer-to-peer exchanges for Education Officers (EOs) and other professionals will ensure that EOs have the necessary information, skills, and tools to apply their training in a timely manner. The first cycle of the Education Officers Training program took place in December 2018. The training agenda included sessions on introduction to training, overview of AQE, institutional capacity assessment, accelerated learning program framework, county meetings, educational leadership for ALP, monitoring for quality, community engagement for improved student outcomes, quality reporting, administrative support for AQE, action planning, site visits, and post-test and training evaluation. The training program utilized a variety of methods, including session guides, pre-test and post-test questionnaires, and handouts. The program aimed to equip education officers with the necessary knowledge and skills to implement and monitor the ALP framework effectively. The training also focused on building the capacity of education officers to support quality ALP services and to increase the number of learners eligible to re-enter the formal school system.
