Abstract
As part of this initiative, a series of educational school classes, known as "Think of Tomorrow," were conducted in all elementary schools in the region. The classes aimed to raise awareness of energy efficiency measures and renewable energy sources through a video presentation and open discussion. Student-members of the Student Energy Club in Tuzla served as lecturers, presenting a ten-minute animated movie entitled "Think of Tomorrow" to encourage positive and responsible behavior in daily energy use. The content of the movie referred to the consideration of daily routines and suggested changes in behavior in everyday situations, such as turning off lights when not needed, the rational use of electrical devices, and public transportation. The classes were conducted during the 2013-2014 school year. The initiative was made possible by support from the American People, sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The USAID Enterprise Energy Efficiency (3E) Project is a USD 4.5 million program for the promotion of Energy Efficiency technologies through the development of pilot projects in buildings that are co-financed by the public and private sector. The project aims to increase the capacity building of municipal partners from the public sector and small and medium enterprises, as well as increase public awareness about the benefits of energy efficiency. Mak Kamenica, Deputy Chief of Party, USAID Enterprise Energy Efficiency (3E), stated that the "school hour 'Think of tomorrow' aims to promote and raise awareness of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources in all elementary schools in Canton Tuzla." Midhat Bajrić, President of the Student Energy Club Tuzla, added that the children enthusiastically participate in the conversation and discussions, sharing new ways of saving energy and gaining knowledge that could save them money in the future. The USAID 3E Project has also worked on increasing the public awareness about the benefits of energy efficiency. To date, the U.S. Government, primarily through USAID, has provided almost $1.6 billion in assistance to support economic, democratic, and social progress in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project's efforts aim to motivate municipal services and ministries to continue this practice in the coming years and to organize similar courses for the next generation of fifth-grade students.
