Abstract
The country's WASH coverage was already a concern before the pandemic, with approximately 30% of the population lacking access to improved sanitation facilities. The pandemic exacerbated these issues, with many households experiencing difficulties in accessing clean water and sanitation services. The government of Rwanda responded to the pandemic by implementing various measures to improve WASH access, including increasing funding for WASH programs and promoting the use of handwashing facilities. However, these efforts were hindered by the economic shock caused by the pandemic, which led to a decline in household income and reduced access to WASH services. A survey conducted by GeoPoll found that 60% of respondents reported difficulties in accessing clean water, while 40% reported difficulties in accessing sanitation services. The survey also found that the pandemic had a disproportionate impact on vulnerable populations, including women and children. The pandemic has also had a significant impact on the WASH sector in Rwanda, with many households experiencing difficulties in accessing WASH services due to the economic shock. The government of Rwanda has implemented various measures to address these issues, including increasing funding for WASH programs and promoting the use of handwashing facilities. The WASH sector in Rwanda is facing significant challenges, including a shortage of WASH facilities and a lack of access to clean water and sanitation services. The pandemic has exacerbated these issues, with many households experiencing difficulties in accessing WASH services. The government of Rwanda has implemented various measures to address these issues, including increasing funding for WASH programs and promoting the use of handwashing facilities. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the WASH sector in Rwanda, with many households experiencing difficulties in accessing WASH services. The government of Rwanda has implemented various measures to address these issues, including increasing funding for WASH programs and promoting the use of handwashing facilities.
