Commodity Import Program (CIP) provides $50 million in balance of payments support to the Government of Egypt to soften the strain of economic problems caused by structural adjustment measures and the Gulf war.

Abstract
Funds will be used to finance priority imports for the public sector. At least 50% of local currency generations will be used for A.I.D.-administered activities. This public sector grant (later augmented by $2.5 million under grant 263K625) constitutes a portion of the $200 million earmarked by Congress for CIP support to Egypt in FY 1991; the remaining $150 million will be provided through the private sector CIP component of project 2630201, Private Sector Credit.
