Abstract
Final PES covers the period 8/77-3/81 and is based on a desk review by the project manager. The project has been modestly successful in achieving its purpose. Despite initial delays, most targets were achieved and inputs from A.I.D., PVO"s, the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), and host governments exceeded expectations. Overseas workshops and discussion seminars were as planned and of high quality, but due to delays five of the seven planned studies will have to be completed under another grant. Among those studies completed, however, the impact of each new study grew as a result of the previous studies. No special studies were undertaken although one or two were expected each year. Although unplanned, this project has triggered development of another A.I.D. project designed to continue building on the strengths of the NAS. Further, some NAS results and personnel were instrumental in influencing certain U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S.-Mexico bilateral research programs.
