Abstract
The project began on February 15, 2019, and is scheduled to conclude on February 14, 2023. The project is being implemented by The Kaizen Company, LLC, with Andrew Parks serving as the Contracting Officer's Representative. The ESMP project focuses on enhancing the capacity of the Ministry of Education (MOE) to manage and plan schools effectively. The project's objectives include improving the quality of education, increasing access to education, and enhancing the efficiency of school management. To achieve these objectives, the project is implementing several components, including assessments, capacity building, and sustainability of increased capacity. Assessments are a critical component of the ESMP project, as they provide valuable insights into the challenges facing schools in Jordan. The project has conducted several assessments, including a preliminary findings report on challenges facing schools. The report highlights issues such as inadequate infrastructure, insufficient resources, and poor management practices as major challenges facing schools in Jordan. The project has also conducted assessments on school construction design standards, requirements, design review, and approval processes. The findings of these assessments have identified several areas for improvement, including the need for more stringent design standards and a more efficient approval process. In addition to assessments, the ESMP project is also implementing capacity building activities to enhance the skills and knowledge of school administrators and teachers. The project has provided training to over 2,500 school administrators and teachers on topics such as school management, financial management, and curriculum development. The project is also working to ensure the sustainability of increased capacity by developing a sustainability plan that outlines the steps needed to maintain the gains made during the project. The plan includes activities such as capacity building, technical assistance, and monitoring and evaluation. The ESMP project is also collaborating with other USAID projects and partner entities in the host government and other donor agencies to leverage resources and expertise. The project is also sharing knowledge and best practices with other stakeholders to enhance the quality of education in Jordan. In terms of lessons learned, the project has identified several key takeaways, including the importance of conducting thorough assessments to identify challenges and opportunities, the need for effective capacity building to enhance the skills and knowledge of school administrators and teachers, and the importance of sustainability planning to ensure the long-term impact of the project. The ESMP project has made significant progress in the third quarter of FY 2019, with several key activities and milestones achieved. The project has also identified several challenges and areas for improvement, including the need for more resources and support to sustain the gains made during the project. The project is planning several activities for the next quarter, including the implementation of capacity building activities, the conduct of assessments, and the development of a sustainability plan. The project is also planning to collaborate with other stakeholders to leverage resources and expertise and to share knowledge and best practices. Overall, the ESMP project is making significant progress in enhancing the management and planning of schools in Jordan. The project's focus on assessments, capacity building, and sustainability planning is ensuring that the gains made during the project are sustained over the long term.
