Abstract
The program aims to promote development in the areas of economic development, education, water and sanitation, and community organization. During the period from October to December 2011, the FCDI continued to implement its activities despite a reduction in funding due to a decrease in USAID's budget. As a result, the FCDI closed two regional offices and reduced its staff by approximately 50%. However, the program maintained its commitment to implementing its activities with the same high level of quality. The FCDI made significant progress in its water and sanitation projects, including the rehabilitation of the water intake system in Coroico and the construction of several water systems in the Yungas region. Once completed, these projects will provide access to clean water for communities in San José, Los Olivos, Villa Camacho, and 21 de Agosto in the municipality of La Asunta, as well as for communities in San Miguel de Huachi and Alto Remolinos in the municipality of Palos Blancos. In addition to the construction of water systems, the FCDI provided training to community members on the administration, operation, and maintenance of these systems. Each community established a Committee of Water and Sanitation (CAPYS) to manage the services, and the FCDI trained the members of these committees on their responsibilities. The FCDI also provided training to community members on community organization, the use of natural resources, and the preservation of water sources through activities supervised by environmental committees. For example, the FCDI conducted activities in schools in the participating communities to sensitize children on the importance of water and its proper use, personal hygiene, and waste management. In the area of sanitation, the FCDI continued the construction of the sewage system in Siguani Grande, located in the municipality of La Asunta. The majority of the excavation work for the laying of pipes and inspection chambers was completed, and the cement was removed from the tank of the wastewater treatment plant. This tank will form part of the anaerobic wastewater treatment plant, as designed by the system. Additionally, with the completion of the final design of the sewage system in Cotapata, the Fondo de Diseños de La Asunta was concluded. This design is useful for the municipal government, as it can now be included in the annual operational plan (POA), which is a requirement for the government to request funds. The FCDI also made significant progress in its education projects. In the municipality of La Asunta, the FCDI continued working on the construction of 12 classrooms for the René Barrientos Ortuño school, resulting in a nearly completed infrastructure by the end of the quarter. Some details of construction and the installation of furniture will be completed during the next quarter. In the municipality of Irupana, the construction of two multigrade classrooms in the communities of Huiri Lanza and San José de Llojeta was completed. The construction of the multigrade classroom in the community of Churubamba in the same municipality is scheduled to be completed in the next quarter.
