Abstract
FTF Inova works with market actors, such as businesses and government entities, to help them adopt new ways of doing business and of delivering services, to help Mozambican agriculture become more competitive and inclusive. Throughout implementation, FTF Inova has successfully managed to be a catalyst for new practices, products, and services in agriculture, nudging the system to become more responsive to smallholder farmer (SHF) needs, while improving relationships and resilience. During fiscal year (FY) 2021, FTF Inova has improved the terms of sale for agricultural products through innovations that led to increases in sales' value and volume, increased investment, and improved participation of women and youth. Examples of significant achievements in outcome area #1, in FY 2021 include: Domestic produce is increasingly valued and sold in local markets, with a notable increase in the sales value of Mozambican-grown rice. This is attributed to the efforts of Ka Da Terra supermarket, which has invested in sourcing and transporting Mozambican-grown rice throughout the country. Additionally, Adcicional's subsidiary PROP has delivered vegetables to urban retailers, further increasing the availability of domestic produce. The Input Distribution Network (IDN) has made significant progress in improving agricultural input delivery, with a notable increase in the use of Rota Certa routes. This has resulted in improved efficiency and reduced costs for farmers. Furthermore, the IDN has increased the availability of agricultural inputs, including seeds and fertilizers, to smallholder farmers. The Supply Chain Management (SCM) component has also made notable progress, with a significant increase in the purchasing of products from Smallholder Farmers (SHF) by output buyers. This is attributed to the efforts of ETG, which has used Spray Service Providers (SSPs) to improve SHF access to markets. Additionally, the SCM component has increased the availability of domestic produce in local markets, with a notable increase in the sales value of Mozambican-grown rice. The Support Service Systems (SSS) component has also made significant progress, with a notable increase in the development of agricultural-focused services. This is attributed to the efforts of Tangerine, which has collected Cultiva data from agrodealers, and TV advertisement for seed competition, which has increased awareness and adoption of new agricultural practices among smallholder farmers. Overall, FTF Inova has made significant progress in improving the competitiveness and inclusivity of Mozambican agriculture, with notable achievements in outcome area #1. These achievements are attributed to the efforts of market actors, including businesses and government entities, which have adopted new ways of doing business and delivering services to help smallholder farmers.
