Final Report: Causes of Delay in Tuberculosis Treatment, Determined by the Healthcare System

The study was implemented by the NGO Center "Social Indicators" in partnership with the School of Public Health of the National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy". The research aimed to determine the duration of the process of appointing treatment for tuberculosis and possible causes of delay in this process, and was based on a combined design - analysis of quantitative and qualitative data. The study protocol and research instruments were reviewed and approved for use by the Donor of the study and the Committee on Medical Ethics of the Institute of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases named after L.V. Gromashevsky of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, with a corresponding Conclusion (see Appendix 1). The results of the study were presented for presentation at the 47th World Conference of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases and were approved by the conference committee for an oral presentation (see Appendix 2). The results of the study were also presented at stakeholder meetings in the field of tuberculosis control: the Interregional Meeting "Changes in the Organization of Tuberculosis and TB/HIV Assistance in Regions Participating in the USAID Project "Strengthening Tuberculosis Control in Ukraine" (June 23-24, 2016), the Consultative Seminar Supported by WHO "Platform for Operational Research" (October 26, 2015), and the Meeting of the Program Committee of the Ministry of Health with the Development of the National Program for Combating Tuberculosis (September 8-9, 2016). Based on the results of the study, one of the junior researchers, Slavytskyi Yegor, defended his master's thesis on the topic "Causes of Delay in Tuberculosis Treatment in Ukraine" in June 2016.
