Abstract
The training is structured around a comprehensive agenda that covers various topics related to family planning, including benefits, methods, and counseling approaches. The training begins with an introduction to the participants, where they are encouraged to share their expectations and establish group norms. The facilitators then review the course goals and objectives, as well as the agenda and materials provided to the participants. This is followed by a pre-course knowledge assessment to gauge the participants' prior knowledge on family planning. The first day of the training focuses on the benefits of family planning, healthy timing and spacing of pregnancies (HTSP), and the importance of postpartum family planning. The facilitators use PowerPoint slides to present information on the benefits of family planning, risks associated with not practicing family planning, and the impact of pregnancy spacing on maternal, newborn, and child health. An interactive discussion is facilitated to engage the participants and encourage them to share their thoughts and experiences. The training then moves on to a technical overview of family planning methods, including spacing methods such as Lactational Amenorrhea Method (LAM), Combined Oral Contraceptive Pills (COCs), Progestin-only Pills (POPs), Centchroman (Ormeloxifene), Copper IUCD, Injection MPA, Condoms, and Emergency Contraceptive Pills (ECP). The facilitators use PowerPoint slides to present information on each contraceptive method, including mechanism of action, safety, effectiveness, client assessment, side effects, warning signs, and follow-up. The training also covers limiting methods, including female and male sterilization. The facilitators use PowerPoint slides to discuss the mechanism of action, safety, effectiveness, case selection, and client assessment, as well as the advantages, disadvantages, and limitations of male and female sterilization. The second day of the training begins with a warm-up session, where the facilitators recap the previous day's activities and review the agenda for the current day. The training then moves on to a technical update on USAID FP Compliance, eligibility criteria, and informed consent for sterilization. The training also includes a mid-course knowledge assessment to evaluate the participants' understanding of the material covered so far. The facilitators then introduce the participants to the use of family planning counseling flip books and kits, as well as the importance of maintaining privacy during counseling sessions. The training concludes with a practice session on family planning counseling skills, where the participants are divided into small groups and asked to role-play counseling scenarios. The facilitators provide feedback and guidance to the participants, and the training ends with a course evaluation session, where the participants are asked to provide feedback on the training and suggest areas for improvement. The training is designed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide effective family planning counseling, and it is expected that the participants will be able to apply this knowledge and skills in their daily work. The training is structured around a comprehensive agenda that covers various topics related to family planning, and it includes interactive sessions, role-playing, and feedback to ensure that the participants are engaged and motivated throughout the training.
