The Malawi Tiwalere II project aims to improve the nutritional status of children under five years of age, pregnant, and lactating women, and adolescent girls in 121 districts in Malawi by 2021.

Abstract
The project is being implemented by Feed the Children along with private sector partners, Nu Skin, Inc. and Proctor and Gamble (P&G), with funding from USAID. The project goal will be realized through three Key Result Areas (KRAs): Improved nutrition & health of 301,015 children under five years of age, 128,148 pregnant and lactating women, and 102,369 adolescent girls (15-19 years old) by June 2021; Increased availability and access to foods rich in micronutrients & protein among 234,912 households with pregnant women and children under five years of age by June 2021; and Improved adoption of essential hygiene actions and increased access to safe water by 234,912 households with pregnant women and children under five years of age by June 2021. During the reporting period from January 1, 2021 to March 31, 2021, Tiwalere II continued to counsel beneficiaries on health and nutrition social behavior change messages focusing on maternal health and nutrition, breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and family planning as they relate to specific household needs through the Care Groups. The project also continued its efforts to sensitize beneficiary households on COVID-19 pandemic preventative measures through home visits. Routine activities, including Growth Monitoring and Promotion (GMP), cooking demonstrations, and provision of school meals, were also implemented. In Balaka District, Tiwalere II achieved a 25% increase in the number of children under five years of age who received Growth Monitoring and Promotion (GMP) services compared to the previous quarter. In Chitipa District, the project distributed 10,000 sachets of Purifier of Water, a product provided by Proctor and Gamble, to households with pregnant women and children under five years of age. In Dowa District, Tiwalere II established 15 Community Based Childcare Centres (CBCCs) to provide care and support to children under five years of age. The project also made progress in increasing availability and access to foods rich in micronutrients and protein among households with pregnant women and children under five years of age. In Karonga District, Tiwalere II distributed 5,000 bags of fortified corn soya blend (CSB) to households with pregnant women and children under five years of age. In Lilongwe District, the project established 20 Village Savings and Loan (VSL) groups to provide financial support to households with pregnant women and children under five years of age. In terms of hygiene and sanitation, Tiwalere II made progress in improving adoption of essential hygiene actions and increasing access to safe water among households with pregnant women and children under five years of age. In Machinga District, the project established 10 Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) committees to promote hygiene and sanitation practices among households with pregnant women and children under five years of age. In Mangochi District, Tiwalere II distributed 10,000 sachets of soap to households with pregnant women and children under five years of age. Overall, Tiwalere II continued to make progress in achieving its project goals and objectives during the reporting period from January 1, 2021 to March 31, 2021. The project's efforts to improve nutrition, health, and hygiene among households with pregnant women and children under five years of age are expected to have a positive impact on the nutritional status of children under five years of age, pregnant and lactating women, and adolescent girls in Malawi.
