Abstract
The program is implemented by Tetra Tech and partners with 41 organizations across 27 countries. Engendering Industries improves gender equality and business performance outcomes of partner organizations by implementing organizational change management interventions throughout the employee life cycle (ELC). The program builds the capacity of organizational leaders to implement gender equality interventions in their organizations through customized best practices, demand-driven coaching, specialized training programs, and a Gender Equity Executive Leadership Program (GEELP). In 2019, USAID awarded the WAGE contract to build upon and expand the work under Engendering Industries. WAGE incorporates additional activities, including establishing a partnership with Johns Hopkins University (JHU) to implement the Self- Empowerment and Equity for Change (SEE Change) Initiative. During the quarter, new resources and tools were collected to update the Best Practices Framework (BPF). Implementation planning began to digitize the BPF and transform it into an interactive online tool. The program also continued to support its Intensive Program partners, with 11 of the initial 12 Cohort 3 partners completing their last GEELP module and beginning preparations for their upcoming capstone projects. Preparations were also made to launch the GEELP for Cohort 4, which began with an orientation session for new participants in June 2021. The Intensive Program partners implemented a total of 55 gender equality activities across the 12 ELC phases, including drafting, reviewing, adopting, or implementing nine policies related to gender equality. Partners trained a total of 138 people (92 women and 46 men) on gender equality. During the quarter, partners reported USD 100,013 in direct and in-kind funding contributions to implement gender equality initiatives. The program also awarded 12 grants between $10,000-$50,000 to Intensive Program partners, with five grants finalized and in implementation. The Workforce Gender Equality Industries Accelerated Program finalized and formatted all training and coaching materials, including the facilitator handbook, participant handbook, session presentations and activities, and MEL tools. Thirty-five partner faculty staff were selected to join the virtual Training of Trainers (ToT) program, which began in May 2021 and ended in July 2021. The Accelerated Program is scheduled to be delivered virtually in 2021 with four partners, co-facilitated by the trained trainers from each institution. The SEE Change Initiative implemented the Empowered Employee Training Program for the USAID WIRE project in Rwanda, using a hybrid approach with both virtual and in-person sessions. SEE Change also continued discussions with the EDM training team to plan for the upcoming training roll-out and participated in the Accelerated Program ToT. The Women Powering Africa (WiAP) project published two newsletters this quarter, reaching 498 readers, and continues collaborating with the International Finance Corporation's Energy2Equal program.
