Abstract
The program is implemented by Development Aid from People to People in Zambia (DAPP) with funding and technical support from the American People through USAID/Zambia. The overall goal of the project is to improve the care and resilience of vulnerable children in Southern and Central Provinces by supporting, protecting, and strengthening the capacity of children, families, and communities. The program aims to achieve this goal by directly involving children, youth, families, caregivers, community groups, and government structures. The Garden Farming Action Group Program Manual is designed to assist members in getting started with garden farming and producing food for orphans and their families. The program covers activities for 10 months, with each month having a headline and plans for 4 lessons and actions. The lessons and actions are designed to be easy to use for the Garden Farming Action Group coordinators and project staff. The program focuses on key areas such as preparing the soil for gardens, planning for growing healthy vegetables, and taking care of the garden farms. The program also emphasizes the importance of managing challenges, becoming wiser and using experiences, and harvesting, preserving, and storing vegetables. The Garden Farming Action Group Program Manual is designed to be used by members of the Garden Farming Action Group, who are typically from 10-20 families. Each group will choose two coordinators and will have a meeting every week for 3 to 4 hours with a lesson and an action. The program aims to provide members with the knowledge and skills necessary to produce food in a sustainable manner and to use the available knowledge on how to produce food. The program also aims to provide members with the opportunity to earn extra money by selling their produce, which can be used to pay for school fees and clothes. The program is designed to be a collaborative effort between the Garden Farming Action Group members, the coordinators, and the project staff. The Garden Farming Action Group Program Manual is a comprehensive guide that covers all aspects of garden farming, from preparing the soil to harvesting and storing vegetables. The program is implemented in close cooperation with Government Line Ministries and Institutions, Civil Society Organizations, Faith-Based Organizations, and community structures such as Community Welfare Assistant Committees, Village Action Groups, Support Groups for People living with HIV, and Youth Clubs.
