Abstract
The project is funded by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Bureau for Global Health, Office of Health Systems. The USAID ASSIST Project is managed by University Research Co., LLC (URC) under the terms of Cooperative Agreement Number AID-OAA-A-12-00101. WI-HER LLC is USAID ASSIST's lead partner for gender integration. The tools consist of three worksheets designed to facilitate a comprehensive gender analysis. Worksheet 1 focuses on identifying key gender relations and power disparities in various domains, including household, community, health facility, laws and policies, cultural norms, and access to assets and resources. The worksheet prompts users to examine patterns of power and decision-making in these domains. Worksheet 2 involves data synthesis and requires users to consider additional information needed about gender relations, as well as the gender-related constraints and opportunities to achieving project objectives and targeted health outcomes. The worksheet also prompts users to examine the impact of laws, policies, regulations, and institutional practices on gender relations. Worksheet 3 is focused on planning and requires users to identify gender-related aims and objectives, design proposed changes and activities to address gender-based opportunities or constraints, and establish indicators for monitoring and evaluation. The worksheet prompts users to consider how to take advantage of gender-based opportunities and remove gender-based constraints. The GENDER ANALYSIS TOOLS are designed to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of gender relations and power disparities in various domains, ultimately informing strategic planning and decision-making to address these issues.
