The mainstream Mesoamerican breeding program practices a selection cycle, with the goal of achieving F5-derived F6 populations in two years.

Abstract
At any given time, multiple populations are active in different stages of the cycle. The drought trials conducted in July-September 2018 were particularly stressful, as observed in the workshop held in Cali. The statistical analysis of these trials has been completed, and superior individual F5 and F6 plant selections have been selected based on visual evaluation before whole plots were reconstituted to the plot weight for statistical analysis. The yield data indicated that families in which selections were made yielded more than 50% above the average of checks. As a result, 253 F5.6 and F6.6 families have been coded, including 59 other grain types. The coded families include those with traits such as drought tolerance, large seed, and minerals. A summary of the selected lines and their corresponding traits is provided in Table 1. The lines were selected based on their performance in the drought trials, and they have shown remarkable traits of excellent yield and large, well-filled seed among Mesoamerican genotypes. When planted without stress in unreplicated plots, these lines have also shown excellent unstressed yield and high yield potential. The breeding program has also focused on developing lines with large seed, as seen in Table 1. Among the lines selected from the mainstream drought trials, a number of lines from the cross SMR 180 x (SMC 199 x BFS 81) have shown remarkable traits of excellent yield and large, well-filled seed. These lines have been planted without stress in unreplicated plots and have shown excellent unstressed yield and high yield potential. The breeding program has also made significant progress in developing lines with drought tolerance, minerals, and minerals combined with drought tolerance. The lines selected from the mainstream drought trials have shown remarkable traits of excellent yield and large, well-filled seed. These lines have been planted without stress in unreplicated plots and have shown excellent unstressed yield and high yield potential. The breeding program has also focused on developing lines with various colors, including red, black, and black with minerals. The lines selected from the mainstream drought trials have shown remarkable traits of excellent yield and large, well-filled seed. These lines have been planted without stress in unreplicated plots and have shown excellent unstressed yield and high yield potential.
