Abstract
Funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the five-year initiative aims to enhance agricultural research capacity and provide wheat producers with the necessary knowledge, inputs, and technologies to improve yields, reduce post-harvest losses, and manage limited natural resources. Key outcomes from the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2021 (FY21 Q1) include a significant increase in the number of individuals participating in USG food security programs, with 2,703 individuals receiving training and support. The program has also achieved notable results in terms of data management, with 11 active users of the Data Management System (DMS) and 101 DMS active users overall. Furthermore, 750 individuals received USG-supported short-term agricultural sector productivity or food security training. The program has also made progress in terms of technology adoption, with 36 technologies, practices, and approaches under various phases of research, development, and uptake. Additionally, 943 women and 1,174 men participated in the program, with 943 women and 89 men achieving the Learning Outcomes Profile (LOP). The program has also achieved its FY21 Q1 targets, with 11 individuals achieving the LOP and 36 technologies being researched and developed. The program's focus on building human and institutional capacity for agricultural research has yielded positive results, with a 40% change in knowledge among program participants from pre-test to post-test. The program has also achieved a 42% change in knowledge of program participants, with 189 individuals participating in USG food security programs. Overall, the GRAIN program has made significant progress in its first quarter, with notable achievements in training, data management, technology adoption, and capacity building.
