Abstract
The guide is designed to equip community health workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote healthy behaviors and improve health outcomes in their communities. The training program consists of six sessions, each focusing on a specific topic. Session I, "Roles, Responsibilities, and Selection Criteria for Community Health Workers," clarifies the objectives and roles of community health workers, including their responsibilities and selection criteria. The session also covers the importance of community health workers in promoting health and well-being. Session II, "Communication for Social Change and Behavior," focuses on the role of communication in promoting behavior change and social change. The session covers the elements, forms, and types of communication, as well as the obstacles that may hinder effective communication. Community health workers learn how to use communication effectively to promote healthy behaviors and improve health outcomes. Session III, "Hygiene and Sanitation," covers the importance of hygiene and sanitation in preventing the spread of diseases. The session includes topics such as individual hygiene, food hygiene, water hygiene, and collective hygiene. Community health workers learn how to promote good hygiene and sanitation practices in their communities. Session IV, "Newborn Care," focuses on the importance of providing simple care to newborns. The session covers topics such as the definition of simple care, the roles and responsibilities of community health workers in providing care, and the signs of danger in both the mother and the newborn. Community health workers learn how to identify and respond to signs of danger in newborns. Session V, "Nutrition," covers the importance of nutrition in promoting health and well-being. The session includes topics such as exclusive breastfeeding, nutrition for infants and young children, and the detection of malnutrition. Community health workers learn how to promote healthy nutrition practices in their communities. Session VI, "Family Planning," focuses on the importance of family planning in promoting healthy family size and spacing. The session covers topics such as the concepts and benefits of family planning, obstacles to family planning, and the definition and classification of contraceptive methods. Community health workers learn how to promote family planning practices and provide counseling on contraceptive methods. The training program is designed to equip community health workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote healthy behaviors and improve health outcomes in their communities. By promoting good hygiene and sanitation practices, providing simple care to newborns, promoting healthy nutrition practices, and promoting family planning practices, community health workers can play a critical role in improving health outcomes in Mali.
