Abstract
The project involves the construction of watercourses, irrigation systems, and other infrastructure to support the development of command areas. The project is divided into four components: On-Farm Water Management and Command Area Development, Productivity Enhancement, Value Added Processing, and Marketing of Products. The site visit report highlights the progress made in each of these components, with a focus on the construction of 10 watercourses in five packages. The site visit, conducted from July 4 to July 12, 2019, aimed to verify the completion of the 10 watercourses certified by the Project Implementation Unit (PIU). The visit was conducted to ensure that the watercourses were constructed as per design drawings and specifications, and that environmental safeguards were in place. The site visit also assessed the social aspect of the project, including the involvement of beneficiaries in the development process. The report notes that the 10 watercourses were in an advanced stage of completion technically, but required improvement in ensuring environmental compliance and strengthening social mobilization. The earlier shared punch list by the PIU Design and Supervision Consultant for all the 10 FCR watercourses was not fully addressed during the site visit. The report highlights several key findings, including: * The 10 watercourses were constructed as per design drawings and specifications, but required improvement in ensuring environmental compliance. * The social mobilization process was not fully effective, with beneficiaries showing limited involvement in the development process. * The earlier shared punch list by the PIU Design and Supervision Consultant for all the 10 FCR watercourses was not fully addressed during the site visit. * The project has made progress in terms of procurement of consultancies and implementation progress status. The report also provides recommendations for improvement, including: * Ensuring environmental compliance in the construction of watercourses. * Strengthening social mobilization to ensure active involvement of beneficiaries in the development process. * Addressing the punch list shared by the PIU Design and Supervision Consultant for all the 10 FCR watercourses. Overall, the report provides an update on the progress made in the GZD-CADP project, highlighting areas of improvement and providing recommendations for future action.
