Abstract
The clinic, located in AlRusafa, has been supported by USAID's Primary Health Care Project in Iraq (PHCPI). As a result, the clinic has received training and modern equipment, along with the implementation of a Local Health Committee (LHC). The LHC is a community-based initiative that involves the formation and training of a local committee made up of community members and health center medical staff. This committee holds regular meetings and maintains a link between medical professionals and the community. The Hay Babil clinic has implemented the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) program, which provides modern, standardized health care for children. The IMCI program includes guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of various childhood illnesses, such as asthma, diabetes, and early detection of breast and cervical cancer. The program also emphasizes the importance of regular follow-up care for children with chronic conditions. Dr. Muhamed, the IMCI officer at the Hay Babil PHCC, stated that the IMCI program allows for a more accurate diagnosis of asthma, which is essential for effective treatment. The implementation of the IMCI program at the Hay Babil clinic has had a significant impact on the health care of children in the community. Prior to the program's implementation, children like Iraq, who suffers from asthma, had to travel long distances to receive proper care. However, with the IMCI program in place, children can now receive standardized, modern health care right in their communities. This has reduced the time, education, and money sacrificed by families like Iraq's, who no longer have to travel to distant health care providers. The USAID Primary Health Care Project in Iraq (PHCPI) has partnered with the Iraqi Ministry of Health (MoH) to strengthen the delivery of primary health care services throughout the country. The project focuses on improving maternal and child health services and supporting the Government of Iraq to improve the standards and quality of 36 "model clinics" to serve as a prototype for future replication and investment in primary health care throughout Iraq. The Hay Babil clinic is one of these model clinics, and its implementation of the IMCI program has been a key component of the project's success. The success of the Hay Babil clinic's IMCI program has been attributed to the training and support provided by the PHCPI. The project has equipped the clinic with modern equipment and trained the medical staff in the use of IMCI guidelines. The establishment of the LHC has also played a crucial role in the program's success, as it has facilitated communication between the medical professionals and the community. The Hay Babil clinic's IMCI program serves as a model for other clinics in Iraq, demonstrating the importance of standardized, modern health care for children.
