Abstract
The program is designed to equip Village Health Promoters with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to provide effective health care services to their communities. The training program is structured into two main components: the Basic Course and Suggested Units for Additional Training. The Basic Course is an orientation program that introduces trainees to the role and responsibilities of a Village Health Promoter. The course covers essential topics such as the causes of sickness, sanitation, and health problems, including diarrhea, fever, and cough. The Basic Course is designed to be completed in a few hours, and the instructor is encouraged to refer to the course material at appropriate times throughout the training. The instructor is also advised to elicit responses from the trainees about their role and expectations, and to use role-playing situations to reinforce key concepts. The Suggested Units for Additional Training provide further guidance on specific health topics, including fractures and shock, injections and immunizations, and family planning. These units are designed to be used in conjunction with the Basic Course and are intended to provide trainees with a more in-depth understanding of key health issues. The Village Health Promoter training program is a collaborative effort between Project Concern International and various international organizations. The program has received financial support from the Agency for International Development and the U.S. Department of State. The program is designed to be used in a training environment that utilizes both nonformal and formal training techniques. The training program is intended to be a useful reference tool for health workers upon completion of training. The accompanying Instructor's Manual is designed to assist trainers or facilitators in completing or "rounding out" the trainee's experience. The manual provides guidance on teaching techniques, audiovisual aids, and resource books. The Village Health Promoter is considered synonymous with other health personnel, including Village Health Worker, Health Auxiliary, Health Assistant, Medical Dresser, Medical Auxiliary, and others. The training program is dedicated to all the people who will benefit from the services of the Village Health Promoter, with the goal of improving health care services and promoting better health for more people throughout the world. The training program emphasizes the importance of sanitation, hygiene, and health education in preventing and controlling health problems. The program also highlights the need for Village Health Promoters to be aware of their role and responsibilities, and to conduct themselves in a professional and respectful manner when interacting with patients. The program's emphasis on community-based health care and the use of audiovisual aids, such as filmstrips and posters, reflects the importance of using local resources and materials to promote health education and awareness. The program's focus on training Village Health Promoters to provide effective health care services to their communities underscores the need for a community-based approach to health care delivery.
