2023 · 21 pages

Abstract
The workshop was facilitated by the Cadre Development and Training (CDAT) Activity from July 31 to August 2, 2023, with a clinic component facilitated by the Conflict and Violence Prevention (CVP) team from August 3 to 4. The final virtual Instructor-Led Training (vILT) was facilitated by CDAT on September 13. The workshop aimed to equip participants with the skills to incorporate analytical tools to examine conflict and violence dynamics, apply the Do No Harm framework to identify unintended consequences of programming, and apply conflict sensitivity across the Program Cycle to improve development outcomes in countries affected by violence and conflict. The course design included three learning objectives, and participants were asked to complete CDAT-administered evaluations at three points throughout the course delivery. Participant feedback on the technical workshop evaluation was very positive, with all respondents (n=17, 100 percent) agreeing or strongly agreeing that they were satisfied with the sessions, that the course materials and the design of the sessions contributed to their learning experience, and that they feel confident about applying what they learned back on the job. Participant feedback on the end-of-course evaluation was also positive but had a lower response rate (n=9, 53 percent). The delivery details included a lead facilitator, Ross Van Horn, and facilitators Alison Gittelman and Ben Kauffeld. The course had a total of 17 participants, with 15 participants completing the learning needs assessment (LNA), 17 participants completing the technical workshop evaluation, and 9 participants completing the end-of-course evaluation. The evaluation respondents' demographic data showed that the majority of participants were male, with 8 males and 6 females responding to the LNA, 8 males and 9 females responding to the technical workshop evaluation, and 4 males and 5 females responding to the end-of-course evaluation. The post-event report also includes recommendations for future deliveries of the in-person CSAid course, including ensuring a lead time of at least six weeks to provide sufficient time to prepare and acquire visas, continuing the practice of hosting virtual facilitation team meetings, and exploring strategies for improving participant attendance of the final vILT. The report also highlights the strengths of the pilot delivery, including the collaboration of the facilitation team, high participant engagement, and support from the Deputy Mission Director. The CSAid Nigeria post-event report provides valuable insights into the delivery of the in-person CSAid technical workshop and highlights the importance of conflict sensitivity in development programming. The report's recommendations and lessons learned can inform future deliveries of the course and contribute to the improvement of development outcomes in countries affected by violence and conflict. The technical workshop agenda included sessions on conflict sensitive activity design, conflict sensitivity across sectors, and practicing conflict sensitivity at USAID. The clinic component focused on implementing conflict sensitivity and adaptive management. The final vILT covered conflict sensitive monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) and understanding impact: the ABCs of conflict sensitivity. The attendance list shows that 17 participants attended the technical workshop, with 15 participants completing the LNA, 17 participants completing the technical workshop evaluation, and 9 participants completing the end-of-course evaluation. The demographic data for the evaluation respondents showed that the majority of participants were male, with 8 males and 6 females responding to the LNA, 8 males and 9 females responding to the technical workshop evaluation, and 4 males and 5 females responding to the end-of-course evaluation.
