Abstract
The project has focused on several areas, including supporting the implementation of a unified pharmaceutical system in the Dominican Republic and providing technical assistance to countries in the Amazon Malaria Initiative. In the Dominican Republic, MSH has been working to implement the SUGEMI system, which aims to improve the management of medicines and health supplies. The system was supported by a decree in 2010 and has undergone rapid implementation, including the development of manuals and procedures, training of personnel, and the establishment of regional units for the management of medicines. The SUGEMI system relies on the training of personnel responsible for the supply of medicines and health supplies. To this end, MSH designed a methodology that allows for the simultaneous introduction of concepts and tools for the management of medicines and the application of SUGEMI procedures in pharmacy services. The program was developed in a way that each module included preparatory, presential, and practical activities. The first promotion of the Diploma in Medicines Supply Management was taught by the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) in a semi-presential mode and was directed at health professionals, ideally working in the public sector, in charge of activities in the management of medicines. The students were professionals employed in a health institution or had a space to carry out their work practice. The Diploma had a duration of 12 weeks and was developed according to the designed structure.
