Abstract
The initiative focused on the municipality of Carolina del Príncipe in Antioquia, where a significant portion of the land is privately owned and subject to agricultural and livestock activities. The initiative's strategy involved engaging with private landowners through a participatory and communication approach, which included the development of a guide for interviews with landowners who possess forests of interest for the SIMAP (Sistema Municipal de Áreas Protegidas). The guide aimed to create a comfortable and intimate environment for landowners to share their experiences and perceptions about their land use practices and biodiversity. The guide consisted of five sections, each focusing on a specific aspect of the landowner's activities and perceptions. The first section introduced the project and its objectives, while the second section explored the landowner's history, land use practices, and relationships with public and private institutions. The third section delved into the landowner's production and relationship with water, soil, vegetation, and fauna, including their experiences with environmental challenges and opportunities. The fourth section aimed to explore the landowner's interest in participating in the SIMAP initiative and their willingness to explore conservation strategies that benefit the territory. The final section concluded the interview, discussing next steps and expressing gratitude to the landowner for their participation. The initiative also included a range of promotional materials, such as posters, flyers, and pendants, to raise awareness about the importance of conservation and the benefits of participating in the SIMAP initiative. These materials were displayed in public spaces, including the Casa de la Cultura, to reach a wider audience and encourage landowners to engage with the initiative. The Conservacolombia initiative aimed to promote sustainable land use practices and conservation among private landowners in the municipality of Carolina del Príncipe. By engaging with landowners and exploring their experiences and perceptions, the initiative sought to identify opportunities for conservation and develop strategies that benefit the territory and its inhabitants. The initiative's focus on private landowners and their role in conservation is significant, as they often possess large tracts of land that are critical for maintaining biodiversity and ecosystem services. By working with private landowners, the Conservacolombia initiative aimed to promote a more sustainable and equitable approach to land use, one that balances economic, social, and environmental needs. The initiative's approach to conservation is also noteworthy, as it emphasizes the importance of engaging with local communities and stakeholders to develop effective conservation strategies. By involving landowners and other stakeholders in the conservation process, the initiative aimed to build trust, foster cooperation, and promote a sense of ownership and responsibility for conservation efforts. Overall, the Conservacolombia initiative represents a significant effort to promote sustainable land use practices and conservation among private landowners in Colombia. By engaging with landowners and exploring their experiences and perceptions, the initiative aimed to identify opportunities for conservation and develop strategies that benefit the territory and its inhabitants.
