Abstract
The study aimed to identify policies and programs related to dropout prevention in these countries. The research was conducted by Creative Associates International, Inc. and submitted to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on July 22, 2011. The inventory of policies and programs in Cambodia revealed that the country has a legal context of education that emphasizes compulsory and free education. However, school facilities are often inadequate, and teacher recruitment, training, and behavior in the classroom are major concerns. The country also has policies and programs to support girls and at-risk students, as well as initiatives to address other access and retention issues. Options for School Dropout Prevention Pilot Program (SDPP) interventions in Cambodia include improving school facilities, enhancing teacher training and behavior, and increasing support services for students. In India, the legal context of education emphasizes compulsory and free education, but school facilities are often inadequate, and teacher recruitment, training, and behavior in the classroom are major concerns. The country has policies and programs to support girls and at-risk students, as well as initiatives to address other access and retention issues. Options for SDPP interventions in India include improving school facilities, enhancing teacher training and behavior, and increasing support services for students. The inventory of policies and programs in these countries highlights the need for targeted interventions to address dropout prevention. The School Dropout Prevention Pilot Program can play a crucial role in supporting these efforts by providing resources and expertise to improve education systems and reduce dropout rates.
