Abstract
The GIIN's mission is to increase the scale and effectiveness of impact investing by providing a common language, metrics, and best practices for the industry. The organization's vision is of a world where financial markets serve all members of society and where finance plays a central role in solving the social and environmental challenges facing the global community. The GIIN has developed a Roadmap for the Future of Impact Investing, a collective action plan that assesses progress made over the past decade and identifies priorities to address remaining gaps. The roadmap comprises six categories of action, each with 18 concrete actions that describe what is needed, why, who should lead, and by when progress should be achieved. These categories include mobilizing more capital for impact investing globally, safeguarding the integrity of impact investing, and fueling the global impact investing movement to change mindsets about the role of capital in society. The GIIN has identified three key strategies to achieve its mission: mobilizing more capital for impact investing globally, safeguarding the integrity of impact investing, and fueling the global impact investing movement to change mindsets about the role of capital in society. The organization also has several key programs, including membership and the Investors' Council, IRIS+ and Impact Measurement & Management, and Research and Communications. These programs aim to provide leadership, organization, and sharing of best practices for the global impact investment industry. Impact investing is defined as investments made with the intention to generate measurable, positive social and environmental impact alongside a financial return. Impact investments can be made in both emerging and developed markets and can target a range of returns from below market to market rate, depending on investors' strategic goals. The GIIN's IRIS+ system provides a common language and metrics for impact investing, enabling investors and investees to measure social and environmental performance consistently. The GIIN's research and communications efforts aim to educate investors and other stakeholders about the benefits and opportunities of impact investing. By providing a common language, metrics, and best practices for the industry, the GIIN seeks to increase the scale and effectiveness of impact investing and to create a world where financial markets serve all members of society and where finance plays a central role in solving the social and environmental challenges facing the global community.
