Abstract
The program's main objective is to support young people in developing the skills and knowledge necessary to secure and retain employment in the private sector. The program's Job Coaching and Mentoring Guide is designed to provide Life Coaches with the tools and knowledge they need to coach youth participants through the training, job placement, and job retention processes. The guide outlines the roles and responsibilities of the Life Coach, including facilitating pre-employment modules, providing advice on national labor laws and workers' rights, and mentoring and coaching youth participants in developing their life plans and career paths. The guide also emphasizes the importance of decent work, which is defined as employment that respects fundamental human rights and provides opportunities for work that is productive, delivers a fair income, and offers social protection for families. The International Labor Organization (ILO) defines decent work as involving opportunities for work that is productive and delivers a fair income, security in the workplace, and social protection for families, as well as better prospects for personal development and social integration. The Life Coach's objectives include selecting eligible and motivated youth to participate in the program, facilitating modules on pre-employment skills, providing advice on national labor laws and workers' rights, and mentoring and coaching youth participants in developing their life plans and career paths. The Life Coach is also responsible for checking for job availability through company visits and contacting potential employers, as well as acting as a mediator between employer and youth in case of a dispute. The program's Job Coaching and Mentoring Guide also outlines the process of soliciting job vacancies from the private sector, which involves collecting information about low-skill job vacancies through company visits and various other sources. The job vacancies are then entered into an online accessible Excel sheet, which is updated weekly by an office assistant. The guide emphasizes the importance of building relationships with companies and introducing the BLES program to them. The Workforce Development Officer and Life Coaches visit companies on a weekly basis to introduce the program, gather information about the company's activities and background, and explain the goals of the Youth to Youth training and the benefits of coaching youth participants for three months. The Life Coach's role in the program is critical in supporting young people in developing the skills and knowledge necessary to secure and retain employment in the private sector. The guide provides a comprehensive framework for the Life Coach's responsibilities and objectives, and emphasizes the importance of decent work and employability skills in promoting youth resilience and economic development.
