Abstract
Agency for International Development (USAID) operates a 36-person engineering and architectural office in Kabul, Afghanistan, on the grounds of the US Embassy. The Office of Infrastructure, Engineering, and Energy (OIEE) oversees the design and construction of various projects, including bridges, dams, roadways, schools, local government buildings, and wastewater and water supply projects. OIEE employees, comprising expatriate and local national staff, work together to manage these projects. To support the office's operations, USAID is seeking qualified candidates for several positions. The Senior Civil-Structural Engineer/Head of Vertical Structures Group is responsible for overseeing the construction management of building structures, including masonry construction, concrete framing, and concrete foundations. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 15-18 years of experience, with at least 5 years of recent experience in construction management. Professional Engineer registration or Architectural Registration is required. The Senior Civil-Structural Engineer/Vertical Structures Group Leader position is similar, with a focus on leading a team of engineers and overseeing the design and construction of building structures. The candidate should have a minimum of 12-15 years of experience, with at least 3 years of recent experience in construction management. Good written communication skills are essential for both positions, and overseas experience is considered a plus. The Senior Transportation Engineer/Department Head position requires a candidate with a minimum of 15 years of experience in the roadway or airport industry, with at least 3 years of experience in transportation systems construction or construction inspection. The ideal candidate should have first-hand knowledge of roadway construction materials, structural steel and/or concrete bridge construction, and materials inspection. Professional Engineer registration is required for this position. All candidates must be able to obtain Secret Security Clearance and be US Citizens. The compensation and benefit package offered is equal to what OIEE US-based contractors provide for their American staff. Assignments with USAID-OIEE are both challenging and rewarding, drawing upon the full range of technical skills.
