Abstract
8 was completed in August 2019. The report was prepared by the General Secretariat of the High Health Council, with the efforts of the National Health Accounts team. The team's work aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the health expenditure in Jordan, using the latest methodologies, standards, and classifications adopted by international organizations. The report is an essential tool for policymakers, decision-makers, and health planners to develop evidence-based health policies. It provides indicators related to health expenditure in Jordan at the national level, enabling policymakers to make informed decisions about the allocation of health resources. The report's findings are based on data collected from various sources, including government agencies, health facilities, and private sector providers. The report highlights the importance of health expenditure in Jordan, which accounted for approximately 7.3% of the country's GDP in 2017. The total health expenditure in Jordan was estimated at JD 2.4 billion, with the government sector accounting for 63.4% of the total expenditure. The report also examines the distribution of health expenditure across different sectors, including hospitals, primary healthcare centers, and private sector providers. The report's findings indicate that the majority of health expenditure in Jordan is allocated to hospital services, which accounted for 44.6% of the total expenditure. Primary healthcare services accounted for 26.4% of the total expenditure, while private sector providers accounted for 15.5%. The report also highlights the importance of investing in primary healthcare services, which can help reduce the burden on hospital services and improve health outcomes. The report provides a detailed analysis of the health expenditure in Jordan, including the sources of funding, the distribution of expenditure across different sectors, and the trends in health expenditure over time.
