Abstract
The initiative focused on empowering the Ministry of Social Development to play a key role in addressing the challenges faced by youth in Jordan. The challenges included limited access to employment opportunities, lack of skills, and limited access to education and training. The initiative involved several key interventions, including the establishment of a training program for youth, the development of infrastructure, and the facilitation of market linkage. The training program aimed to equip youth with the necessary skills to access employment opportunities and improve their socio-economic status. The infrastructure development component aimed to improve access to education, healthcare, and other essential services. The market linkage facilitation component aimed to connect youth with potential employers and provide them with access to job opportunities. The initiative also focused on empowering women-headed households, which represented 38% of the participants. The evaluation of the initiative revealed a 27% increase in household income among program participants compared to the control group. The initiative also aimed to improve food security indicators across all target communities, with the greatest gains observed in areas where both agricultural and market access interventions were combined. The initiative was implemented in partnership with various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, and the private sector. The Ministry of Social Development played a crucial role in the implementation of the initiative, providing technical assistance and support to the program. The initiative was also supported by the World Bank, which provided funding and technical assistance to the program. The initiative was implemented in six governorates in Jordan, including Amman, Zarqa, Irbid, and others. The initiative aimed to achieve several objectives, including improving access to employment opportunities for youth, improving their socio-economic status, and enhancing their skills and knowledge.
