2012 · 12 pages

Abstract
The program aims to increase household income and/or nutrition through private sector strategies in selected agricultural value chains, including maize, horticulture, and staple food crops such as sorghum and millet. The program will support innovations through various stages, from "proof of concept' (Stage 1) to "roll-out" (Stage 2) to "scale-up" (Stage 3). Independent review will be conducted to verify outcomes and test the outcomes and test the results of each stage. An Assessment Advisor will provide support for evidence-based decision making. Land O'Lakes, Inc. - International Development Division is implementing the KFIE under a hybrid price contract with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Kenya Mission. The program will focus on the High Rainfall Zone 1 (HRI) and Semi-Arctic Zone 2 (SA2) regions. The program will support the business for nutrition by catalyzing the private sector to produce nutrient-dense foods, promoting households to adopt healthy practices, and sourcing fortified foods. KFIE will also support innovations in various stages, from "proof of concept' (Stage 1) to "roll-out" (Stage 2) to "scale-up" (Stage 3). The program will select promising innovations, coach and adopt selected innovations to support their growth and adoption. KFIE will also apply evidence-based testing to determine movement from one stage to another. The program will benefit local Kenyan institutions by cultivating and disseminating innovative practices. The program has initiated the hiring of key personnel, including the key KFIE and the program's Engagement Manager. The program has also established a mobilization plan, which was reviewed at a post-award meeting with USAID at the end of May 2012. The program will benefit local Kenyan institutions by cultivating and disseminating innovative practices. The program will also support innovations in various stages, from "proof of concept' (Stage 1) to "roll-out" (Stage 2) to "scale-up" (Stage 3).
