Abstract
The project's primary goal is to strengthen leadership, management, and governance in the health sector, with a focus on improving service delivery and promoting sustainability of programs. In Project Year 5 (PY5), the LMG Project continued to collaborate with community members, health workers, and government ministries to identify ways to improve service delivery and promote sustainability of programs. The project's work focuses on all levels of the health system, with a particular emphasis on ensuring that individual medical personnel have the skills and competencies they need to lead and manage programs and health facilities. One key initiative in PY5 was the development and delivery of the new Health System Management course to almost 1,000 students at four universities in Ethiopia. This course is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to manage health facilities and programs effectively, and to overcome service delivery challenges in their clinics. The LMG Project also continued to strengthen the capacity of health workers and government officials through a range of training and technical assistance activities. These activities included training on leadership and management skills, as well as on specific topics such as health information systems and supply chain management. In addition to its work in Ethiopia, the LMG Project also implemented activities in several other countries, including Afghanistan, Côte d'Ivoire, Haiti, and Nigeria. These activities included training and technical assistance to health workers and government officials, as well as support for the development of health policies and strategies. The LMG Project's work is guided by a number of key principles, including a commitment to improving service delivery and promoting sustainability of programs. The project also places a strong emphasis on collaboration and partnership, working closely with a range of stakeholders, including community members, health workers, and government officials. Overall, the LMG Project's work in PY5 reflects its ongoing commitment to strengthening leadership, management, and governance in the health sector, and to improving service delivery and promoting sustainability of programs. The project's activities and initiatives are designed to have a lasting impact on the health sector, and to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other global health targets. The project's work in PY5 also reflects its focus on all levels of the health system, from pre-service training institutions to health facilities and programs. By working with a range of stakeholders and implementing a range of activities and initiatives, the LMG Project is well-positioned to make a significant contribution to the improvement of health outcomes and the strengthening of health systems in the countries where it works. In terms of specific outcomes, the LMG Project reported a number of successes in PY5, including the delivery of the new Health System Management course to almost 1,000 students in Ethiopia, and the provision of training and technical assistance to hundreds of health workers and government officials in several countries. The project also reported progress on a number of key indicators, including the number of health facilities that have been strengthened, and the number of health workers who have received training and technical assistance.
