Abstract
According to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Haiti ranks 131 out of 190 countries in terms of women's participation in parliament. The country's last place in the region is a significant concern. The Ministry of Women's Affairs and Women's Rights (MCFDF) organized forums in 2012 to analyze the challenges faced by women in Haiti and to provide concrete and sustainable responses. The forums, which were attended by approximately 1,500 delegates from women's organizations, discussed five key themes: education, health, leadership and political participation, economy, and justice and legal status. The forums highlighted the need for greater women's participation in politics, including the application of a 30% quota for women in all levels of national life, as well as the development of programs to promote women's leadership and representation in decision-making positions. The MCFDF's report, "Le livre blanc sur la condition féminine," presents the main problems and recommendations related to women's participation in politics in Haiti. The report emphasizes the need for greater women's participation in politics, including the application of a 30% quota for women in all levels of national life, as well as the development of programs to promote women's leadership and representation in decision-making positions. According to the report, women's participation in politics in Haiti is hindered by several obstacles, including a lack of women in elected positions, underrepresentation of women in decision-making positions, and sociocultural obstacles, including prescribed gender roles in the political sphere. The report also highlights the need for greater women's participation in politics, including the application of a 30% quota for women in all levels of national life, as well as the development of programs to promote women's leadership and representation in decision-making positions. The Health Policy Project, a five-year cooperative agreement funded by USAID, has developed this note to support the MCFDF's advocacy efforts to improve the conditions of women in Haiti in the area of politics. The project aims to promote women's participation in politics and decision-making positions, as well as to address the obstacles that hinder women's participation in politics in Haiti.
