Sign inUSAID. MISSION TO TANZANIA
Subproject (SP), follow-on to a pilot project begun in 1970, to develop efficient methods of testing varieties of local clays suitable for pottery works (i.e., kiln firing and glaze material) in Tanzania"s Arusha region.
1980

Abstract
The SP will fund procurement of several machines needed for testing - a clay preparation plant, a horizontal pug mill, and a brick-line ball mill. Under the pilot project, sufficient personnel were trained and technology developed to carry out several tests using basic machines fabricated locally; the SP will focus on continuing and upgrading these tests. The SP will directly benefit ongoing pottery activities at Singisi, Arusha Prison and Arusha Primary School, and indirectly benefit pottery making programs at other institutions including, inter alia, the Ceramic Institute and the Sukuma Museum. The results of the work of all of these institutions will be extended to villages which now engage in traditional pottery making.
