Abstract
PSIA supports the Government of Pakistan's efforts to achieve this goal. The activity has three overarching objectives: 1) increasing competition by supporting the development of Pakistan's wholesale electricity market, 2) improving the management and operation of the transmission and distribution (T&D) system, and 3) optimizing grid electricity load. To achieve these objectives, PSIA has been implementing various activities. One of the key activities is the power system and distribution network planning training, which was conducted during the second quarter of 2024. The training aimed to enhance the capacity of the National Power Control Center (NPCC) and the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) staff in power system planning and operation. Another significant activity is the creation of customer facilitation centers, which were established in various districts of Pakistan. These centers provide a one-stop shop for customers to access information and services related to electricity billing, payment, and complaint resolution. The centers are equipped with advanced technology, including customer relationship management (CRM) software, to facilitate efficient and effective customer service. PSIA has also been supporting the development of an HR framework for the National Power Control Center (NPCC) and the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC). The framework aims to enhance the HR capacity of these organizations and improve their ability to manage and operate the T&D system effectively. In addition, PSIA has been working with the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) to develop the Integrated System Plan (ISP). The ISP is a comprehensive plan that outlines the future development of the T&D system, including the expansion of transmission lines, substations, and other infrastructure. The plan is expected to improve the reliability and efficiency of the T&D system and reduce power losses. The PSIA has also been implementing a grants program to support the development of renewable energy projects in Pakistan. The program aims to promote the use of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and mitigate climate change. Furthermore, PSIA has been implementing gender interventions to promote women's participation in the power sector. The interventions aim to increase women's access to education and training in the power sector and promote their participation in decision-making processes. The PSIA has also been implementing environmental interventions to reduce the environmental impact of the power sector. The interventions aim to promote the use of clean energy sources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve the overall environmental sustainability of the power sector. Despite the progress made, PSIA has faced some implementation challenges, including delays in the implementation of certain activities and difficulties in accessing certain areas due to security concerns. However, the activity continues to work closely with the Government of Pakistan and other stakeholders to overcome these challenges and achieve its objectives. In terms of progress in numbers, PSIA has achieved significant milestones in the second quarter of 2024. The activity has completed the power system and distribution network planning training, established customer facilitation centers, and supported the development of the HR framework for the NPCC and NTDC. The activity has also made significant progress in the development of the ISP and the grants program. The PSIA has also made significant progress in financial reporting, with the activity having incurred costs of $X million during the second quarter of 2024. The activity has also made significant progress in operations and administration, with the activity having hired X new staff members during the quarter. In terms of planned interventions for the next quarter, PSIA plans to continue implementing the power system and distribution network planning training, establish additional customer facilitation centers, and support the development of the HR framework for the NPCC and NTDC. The activity also plans to continue working on the development of the ISP and the grants program. Overall, the PSIA has made significant progress in the second quarter of 2024, and the activity continues to work closely with the Government of Pakistan and other stakeholders to achieve its objectives.
