Abstract
This condition is considered dangerous and can lead to maternal death if not addressed promptly. A woman experiencing postpartum hemorrhage should be referred to a health facility as soon as possible. The presence of a skilled birth attendant (SBA) at the time of delivery plays a crucial role in preventing postpartum hemorrhage. An SBA can administer an injection of oxytocin to the mother immediately after delivery, which helps to prevent excessive bleeding. Deliveries assisted by an SBA reduce the risks associated with childbirth and the postpartum period. In the absence of an SBA, misoprostol tablets can be used to prevent postpartum hemorrhage. These tablets are designed to make the womb firm and assist in the delivery of the placenta, thereby preventing heavy bleeding. When an SBA is not present at birth, three misoprostol tablets should be given to the woman immediately after delivery, before the expulsion of the placenta. These tablets can be obtained free of cost from Home Health Promoters at 8 months of pregnancy. The tablets should be taken as a single dose, with three tablets taken with water at once. This can be done either immediately after birth, before the expulsion of the placenta, or after the placenta has been delivered. Taking the tablets in this manner is considered easy and life-saving, and can help to prevent postpartum hemorrhage in women who do not have access to an SBA.
