2022 · 35 pages

Abstract
The course aims to equip participants with the necessary skills to effectively manage conflicts and negotiate in various situations. Conflict is defined as a struggle or contest between people or groups with opposing needs, ideas, beliefs, values, or goals. It can be constructive or destructive, good or bad, and may result in winners or losers. Conflict can be expressed openly or remain hidden, and it is often inevitable in personal and professional settings. Sources of conflict include differences in values, goals, and communication styles. Conflicts can arise from misunderstandings, power imbalances, and cultural or social differences. The costs and results of conflict can be significant, including damage to relationships, loss of productivity, and decreased morale. Effective conflict management involves understanding the sources of conflict, recognizing the consequences of reactive behavior, and weighing decisions before taking action. Negotiation skills are essential in managing conflicts, as they enable individuals to find mutually beneficial solutions and resolve disputes. The course outline includes topics such as what is conflict, sources of conflict, costs and results of conflict, ways to handle common conflict characters, what is negotiation, when to negotiate, negotiation techniques, case studies, and lessons learned. Participants are encouraged to engage in discussions, share their experiences, and learn from each other. Throughout the course, participants will have the opportunity to assess their skill level in conflict management and negotiation, learn how to negotiate during conflicts, and explore ways to advance their conflict management and negotiation skills. The course aims to provide participants with a deeper understanding of conflict and negotiation, enabling them to make informed decisions and develop effective strategies for managing conflicts in their personal and professional lives. The course emphasizes the importance of being present, open to new ideas, and respectful of others' views. Participants are encouraged to participate actively, be punctual, and use the chat feature to ask questions, comment, and seek help when needed. The course also includes interactive activities, such as breakout rooms, to facilitate discussion and learning. By the end of the course, participants will gain insight into conflict management and negotiation, assess their skill level, learn how to negotiate during conflicts, and explore ways to advance their conflict management and negotiation skills. They will also recognize the consequences of reactive behavior and weigh decisions before taking action.
