Abstract
The primary objectives of this monitoring are to ensure adherence to environmental guidelines and regulations, as outlined in the Environmental Mitigation and Monitoring Plan (EMMP), Environmental Documentation Form (EDF), and Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) for each project. EIMS is tasked with regularly monitoring activities under the ongoing G2G energy projects and providing updated compliance status and associated documentation. This includes tracking the implementation of environmental mitigation measures, monitoring environmental impacts, and reporting on compliance status to relevant stakeholders. The EMMP serves as a comprehensive framework for environmental management, outlining measures to mitigate potential environmental impacts and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The EDF provides a standardized format for documenting environmental information, while the IEE assesses the potential environmental impacts of a project and identifies necessary mitigation measures. United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has shared these documents with Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) to facilitate environmental compliance monitoring and reporting. EIMS is working closely with WAPDA to ensure that environmental guidelines are adhered to and that necessary measures are taken to mitigate potential environmental impacts. The Mangla Dam Rehabilitation Project (MDRP), Tarbela Dam Repair and Maintenance Phase II Project (TDRP), and Kurram Tangi Dam Project Stage 1 (KTDP) are among the ongoing G2G energy projects being monitored by EIMS. Regular site monitoring and inspection visits are conducted to assess environmental compliance and identify areas for improvement. Institutional setup for environmental compliance at each project includes a Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team, which is responsible for implementing environmental mitigation measures and monitoring environmental impacts. The HSE team is supported by a Focal Person (FP) who coordinates with EIMS to ensure compliance with environmental guidelines. Environmental compliance status is regularly reported to USAID, and outstanding issues are addressed through a collaborative effort between EIMS, WAPDA, and other stakeholders. The Quarterly Environmental Monitoring Report (QEMR) provides a comprehensive overview of environmental compliance status, highlighting areas of improvement and recommending necessary actions to ensure compliance with environmental guidelines. The report highlights the importance of environmental compliance monitoring in ensuring the sustainability of ongoing G2G energy projects. EIMS is committed to working closely with WAPDA and other stakeholders to ensure that environmental guidelines are adhered to and that necessary measures are taken to mitigate potential environmental impacts. Regular monitoring and reporting enable EIMS to identify areas for improvement and recommend necessary actions to ensure compliance with environmental guidelines. The report provides a comprehensive overview of environmental compliance status, highlighting areas of improvement and recommending necessary actions to ensure compliance with environmental guidelines. The Mangla Dam Rehabilitation Project (MDRP) has made significant progress in implementing environmental mitigation measures, with a Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team in place to monitor environmental impacts. The project has also established a Focal Person (FP) to coordinate with EIMS and ensure compliance with environmental guidelines. The Tarbela Dam Repair and Maintenance Phase II Project (TDRP) has also made progress in implementing environmental mitigation measures, with a HSE team in place to monitor environmental impacts. The project has also established a FP to coordinate with EIMS and ensure compliance with environmental guidelines. The Kurram Tangi Dam Project Stage 1 (KTDP) has identified areas for improvement in implementing environmental mitigation measures, with a HSE team in place to monitor environmental impacts. The project has also established a FP to coordinate with EIMS and ensure compliance with environmental guidelines.
