Abstract
The initiative is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and aims to strengthen the country's health systems to effectively combat TB. The program focuses on three main objectives: improving TB case detection and treatment, enhancing health systems, and promoting private sector engagement. Key activities under Objective 1 for the quarter included conducting TB case finding activities, providing training to healthcare providers, and implementing the Directly Observed Treatment Short-Course (DOTS) strategy. The program also supported the implementation of the ENHANCE project, which aims to enhance hospital networks and communities to end TB. TB case notification performance key indicators showed a 10% increase in TB case notifications compared to the same period in the previous year. The number of TB cases detected through active case finding increased by 25%. The program also reported a 15% increase in the number of TB patients treated under the DOTS strategy. The ENHANCE project achieved significant milestones in the quarter, including the establishment of 72 Level 3 hospitals in the National Capital Region, Region III, and Region IVA. These hospitals are equipped to provide high-quality TB care and treatment. The project also conducted training sessions for healthcare providers on TB diagnosis and treatment. The program faced several challenges during the quarter, including delays in the implementation of the ENHANCE project and difficulties in accessing remote areas for TB case finding activities. To address these challenges, the program proposed several solutions, including increasing the number of healthcare providers trained in TB diagnosis and treatment and improving logistics and transportation systems to facilitate access to remote areas. The program also made significant progress in promoting private sector engagement, including the launch of the Private Sector Diagnostics Consortium, which aims to improve TB diagnosis and treatment in the private sector. The program also partnered with the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) to promote private sector engagement in TB control and prevention. The program's performance status is summarized in Table 1, which shows the performance of key indicators for DR-TB. Table 2 shows the performance of key indicators for TB case notification. Table 3 shows the performance status of the ENHANCE project in 72 Level 3 hospitals in the National Capital Region, Region III, and Region IVA. The program's key achievements for the quarter include the establishment of 72 Level 3 hospitals, the increase in TB case notifications, and the launch of the Private Sector Diagnostics Consortium. The program also reported a 15% increase in the number of TB patients treated under the DOTS strategy. The program's management, administrative, and financial issues are discussed in Section 6 of the report. The program's high-level planned activities for the next quarter are outlined in Section 7. The report also includes several annexes, including progress on the activity MEL plan, financial information, and potential success stories. The program's collaboration, learning, and adapting activities are discussed in Section 5 of the report. The program's adaptive management plans are outlined in Table 11. The program's plans for learning activities are outlined in Table 10. The program's sustainability and self-reliance activities are discussed in Section 4 of the report. The program's highlights on major sustainability and self-reliance activities by health system building blocks are outlined in Table 8. The program's harmonization and collaboration meetings with the National TB Control Program, CHDs, other TB IPs, and LGUs are outlined in Table 9.
