Abstract
The project was initially implemented from September 2016 to August 2018, and results motivated USAID to extend the project to Kibago and Kayogoro districts. The project was extended for a period of two years, from August 27, 2018, to August 27, 2020. The project has defined three outcomes, focusing on land certification, mediation of land conflicts, and increasing the awareness of the population on their land rights. The project uses the systematic OGR approach to identify, register, and certify land plots in the Kibago and Kayogoro districts. The OGR approach is carried out in combination with the IIR approach, through which individual requests for land certification are treated. The project has made significant progress in the awareness-raising activities, with 18,587 people participating in the sensitization activities. The awareness-raising activities include public meetings, door-to-door approach, sketch groups, and animation of the program Tumeny'ivyamatoongo Yacu. The project has also organized a radio program to raise awareness and give listeners the opportunity to ask questions. The participation of women in the awareness-raising activities is higher in the door-to-door approach, where extension workers sensitize the population in their households during the evening. The project has also scheduled refresher training for the CRCs and the Bashesantahe on the conflict mediation process for April 2020. The project aims to have covered 18 out of the total 49 villages in both communes using the OGR approach by the end of the next quarter (June 30, 2020).
